Structural pruning and crown reduction of a large, mature English Oak in Bryanston that had developed an unbalanced canopy and was encroaching on the neighbouring property.
The Challenge
A mature English Oak on a residential property in Bryanston had developed a significantly unbalanced canopy over many years, with the majority of the growth extending over the neighbouring property. The neighbour had raised concerns about overhanging branches, and the homeowner wanted to retain the tree while addressing the imbalance and reducing the risk of branch failure.
Our Approach
We carried out a detailed assessment of the tree's structure before proposing a crown reduction and selective pruning programme. The work involved reducing the overhanging sections by approximately 30%, removing several large deadwood branches and improving the balance of the canopy. All cuts were made to natural branch junctions to promote healthy regrowth and avoid leaving stubs.
The Outcome
The tree retained its character and visual presence while the overhanging growth was significantly reduced. The homeowner and neighbour were both satisfied with the outcome. We recommended a follow-up inspection in 18 months to assess regrowth and identify any further maintenance requirements.
