Large-Scale Tree Removal at a Sandton Residential Estate

Removal of 14 mature trees across a gated estate in Sandton, including several that were structurally compromised and posing a risk to boundary walls and underground services.

The Challenge

The estate had 14 trees flagged for removal following a structural assessment. Several were within 2 metres of the perimeter wall, one was directly above a water main, and access for equipment was restricted by narrow internal roads and parked vehicles. The estate body corporate required all work to be completed over a single weekend to minimise disruption to residents.

Our Approach

We conducted a site visit two weeks before the scheduled work to map access routes, identify underground services and plan the sequence of removal. On the day, we used a combination of rigging and sectional dismantling to bring down the trees closest to the wall and the water main without causing damage. The remaining trees were felled in sections and chipped on-site. All debris was removed and the areas were raked clean before we left.

The Outcome

All 14 trees were removed safely over two days. No damage was caused to the boundary wall, underground services or surrounding planting. The estate body corporate confirmed the work was completed to their satisfaction.
